Beverly International Releases UP-LIFT

January 20, 2009

Beverly International has launched a new “pre” and “intra” workout sports drink called “UP-LIFT” which they’re pushing hard in the pages of this month’s Planet Muscle.  I’ve always appreciated Beverly’s approach to formulating products.  Their company tagline “No Nonsense Supplements” is refreshing in an industry filled with overhype.  Although they’ll never be a big player, I think owner Roger Riedinger would rather take the approach of producing quality products without using any hype to sell his supplements.  UP-LIFT is supposed to be as good or better than the various pre-workout products out there, yet doesn’t have any stimulants? Hmmm, I must say I’m skeptical!

UP LIFT Formula

The formula looks pretty basic which is standard order for Beverley, but it’s got a unique twist that I’ve seen done before by the deceased Paul Borresen with his supplement company Biohazard (a.k.a. Chemical Nutrition), but not in many years. They’ve included several “gluconeogenic” amino acids into the formula.  Gluconeogenic amino acids are anticatabolic to muscle tissue while also being able to convert into glucose only if a need exists in the body. This allows you to get less of an impact on blood glucose than you would with sugar-laden sports drinks.  They also thew in 1 gram of Beta Alanine (BA) which is a great stamina-enhancing compound (Editors Note: You need 1.6 grams of BA twice daily for maximum results), AAKG and the other standard ingredients seen in pre-workout and “intra” workout supplements like Ultimate Nutrition’s new product “adreNOline“. But the real difference between UP LIFT and products like Super Pump 250 or NO XPLODE is the fact that it’s stimulant free.  Now all the top pre-workout powders have lots of caffeine and/or other stimulants in them which gives you the real “kick” you need to have a better workout. Not playing with the same “caffeine ammo” as competitors like BSN or Gaspari are doing is risky business. However, there’s always someone out there that’s sensitive to caffeine that may want to use UP-LIFT. Time will tell.

In regards to beta alanine, the large majority of scientific research shows that you need 3.2 grams twice daily for maximum results. So, that’s a daily total of 6.4 grams.

My mistake Don, good catch! I was just talking with a biochemist before I posted that and she said it does start to work at 1.6 g but the dose used in the research was exactly that, 3.2 g twice daily.

Got something to say?
