XAPP
March 17, 2010
Xapp! Xapp!
What’s that sound? Was it a bird? A plane? No, it’s XAPP - the world’s first carbonated whey protein drink! Pay attention folks because XAPP has been in the works for many years now and it’s going to rock the RTD category.
Who Is David Jenkins?
The man who developed XAPP is David Jenkins, owner of Next Proteins. David’s name might not register with some of you that are new to the supplement industry but he’s the guy who brought whey protein to the bodybuilding market back in the early 90s! He’s also the man that commercialized the first pre-workout powder long before NO-XPLODE back in the late 80s with his Ultimate Orange powder (along with Dan Duchaine of course). As one supplement company owner once told me:
“When David Jenkins comes out of the lab with something new, pay attention!”
More On David Jenkins
David was also the first person to sell a layered protein bar with his Detour product. I had the pleasure of meeting David Jenkins in California in 2008 and can confidently say that he and Dr. Scott Connelly (inventor of the original MET-Rx and now founder of PROGENEX) are the two most knowledgeable protein experts I’ve ever met. What really separates David from virtually every other supplement company owner I’ve met is an absolute brilliance in the area of food science technology. His latest creation is called “XAPP” is his next big home run for him in my books. Did I also tell you that he’s also an Olympic medalist?
“Anything Worthwhile Is Worth Waiting For” -Joe Welch
I first sampled XAPP 2 years ago in California when I was helping David with a project. When I cracked open the can, I was completely shocked over it! I simply could not believe it was a protein drink because it fizzed with carbonation exactly like a fizzy soda pop. He had several flavors of it at the time and I tried all that he had but he didn’t give me any to take back to Toronto with me as he only had a few at his facility. At that time, they were not completely through David’s product development process yet. You see, David is a perfectionist. His success in athletics (he won a silver medal in the 1972 Summer Olympics in the 400 meter relay) and in business is a testament to this way of living. Okay, now back to the product! XAPP contains 40 grams of whey protein, has no fat and just 2 grams of carbs. David sent me an email and said a sample of the drinks will be in my office any day now. If they taste as good as the prototype samples he had me try 2 years ago, he will have a real winner on his hands. Once I get a taste, I will let you know.
Attention Supplement Company Owners
Now you’re likely excited to try this product and find out who manufacturers it for Next proteins so that you can call them up and get them to make a version for you! You’re also likely wondering how David Jenkins got The Supplement Genius Scott Welch to talk about his supplement in front of thousands of supplement fanatics that read this site every day, including you? Well here are things to consider:
- He did not offer to pay me any money like some of you have. I cannot be bought or paid off so don’t waste your time trying.
- He actually has a truly unique product that’s not a copycat.
- His product is VERY new and is not readily available on store shelves. This is a site where people go to find out what’s new, not what’s as old as Cybergenics Kits! I will not review old products.
- He’s so confident that it can pass my scrutiny that he’s sending it to me for FREE. Yes FREE! Some of you are too cheap to consider doing this for fear of losing some of your millions! We all know how inexpensive supplements are to make and when it comes to loading up a guy who talks to thousands of supplement junkies, many owners clam up and consider this a poor investment! Think about it, if I tell 100,000 supplement junkies about your innovative supplement, imagine what happens when they each tell 5 other supplement junkies about it?

Protein Blitz Powder
September 4, 2009

Next Proteins has released their much anticipated PROTEIN BLITZ powdered version which boasts 60 grams of whey protein isolate per serving! Yes, 60 grams! PROTEIN BLITZ is available in Vanilla Crème, Milk Chocolate and Strawberry Cream. Each serving of PROTEIN BLITZ contains 8 grams of the anabolic driver Leucine, 60 grams of peptide bound amino acids, 16,000 mg of BCAAs, 280 calories and 1.5 grams of fat.
Origins Of Next Proteins
According to the website Wikipedia, in the 80s a man named David Jenkins together with Juan Javier Macklis set up a plant for the production of anabolic steroids in Mexico which they wanted to sell on the US market. Jenkins was arrested and in December 1988 was found guilty by a US court of trafficking steroids worth around $100 million. He was sentenced to seven years in the Mojave Desert Prison, but was released after 9 months. In 1993 he set up a partnership with Dan Duchaine, a well known steroid guru, and founded Next Proteins. They also say that when Duchaine died Jenkins became the chairman of Next Nutrition but I’ve heard others say that Duchaine was not an owner but rather a paid consultant.
What’s Up With Next Proteins?
I had the pleasure of meeting David Jenkins (owner of Next Proteins) in California in 2008 and can confidently say that he and Dr. Scott Connelly (inventor of the original MET-Rx) are the two most knowledgeable protein experts I’ve ever met. David’s a true veteran of this industry being one of the first people to sell ion-exchanged whey protein with his product Designer Protein (later changed the name to Designer Whey). He was also the first person to sell a layered protein bar with his Detour product. David has always put out top-notch powders and bars but he’s turned his focus onto more a mainstream focus over the last 5 years. It’s really been a while since Next Proteins came out with anything geared towards bodybuilders so it’s hard to tell if BLITZ powder will be successful in this highly competitive market or not. Will bodybuilders give this product a chance or it will crash and burn? Only time will tell.
Patrick Arnold Brings Back 1-AD
August 26, 2008
By Scott Welch
A few years back, baseball homerun hitter Mark McGwire was taking a pro-hormone supplement called Androstenedione a.k.a. “Andro” to boost his testosterone levels. This substance converted into the hormone testosterone once your liver processed it. This controversy got tons of mainstream press as everyone wanted to know exactly what the heck this stuff was that he was taking to hit so many homeruns. But what didn’t get as much press was the story of a chemist working behind the scenes in Chicago named Patrick
Arnold (pictured on left). Patrick had looked closely at the DSHEA laws governing supplements and found a loophole which allowed anything not classified as a drug before 1994 to be sold as a dietary supplement – provided these substance were found in nature! So, he moved full speed ahead to hunt for old steroids that were not brought to market that were also found in nature. So in the case of Andro, it was not an approved drug before 1994 and it was found naturally in Scotch Pine Trees! Therefore, it was “found in nature” as the law stated so it could be sold as a supplement legally. Patrick partnered with anesthesiologist Dr. Scott Connelly who was the owner of MET-Rx at the time. The two formed a division of MET-Rx called “Substrate Solutions” and began introducing a bunch of different prohomone combinations. Over time, other companies found new prohormones such as: Nor-Diol, OHAT, ADT, 1-MT and 1-AD.
Prohormone Heroes
The discovery or at least the commercialization of the various prohomones can be traced back to the following guys:
- Pat Arnold - CEO of Ergopharm
- Bruce Knellar - one of the key formulators for Gaspari Nutrition
- Eric Marchewitz - CEO of LG Sciences
- William Llewellyn - CEO of Molecular Nutrition
- Derek Cornelius - former owner of Syntrax Solutions.
- Dan Amato - CEO of Fizogen SDI Labs and also Cibexo Labs
- Bill Roberts - former formulator for Biotest
- L. Rea - CEO of ALR Industries
- Jeff McCarrell - coowner of Nutrex
- Jack Owac - owner of VPX
- And of course the gang at Zoe Labs
But with the flood of dozens of prohormones that has hit the market, there were a few that really stood out. One such prohormones was the original 1-AD that was originally was released in 2001. It did not take long for people to realize that the stuff was not like the prohormones. Gains of 15 pounds were common. Of course, this stuff was really not a supplement but rather a supplement that converted into a steroid once it hit your liver. But all good things must come to an end however and in 2005 1-androstenedione and 1-androstenediol (the two versions of the original 1-AD) were added to the Anabolic Steroid Control Act and made controlled substances. It seemed that the good old days were officially in the history books.
1-AD Is Back!
Patrick Arnold has managed to pull one last rabbit out of his hat. There is still a naturally occurring precursor to the original 1-AD that converts with high efficiency that is not yet banned. This precursor is not on the list of controlled anabolic steroids. It’s called 1-androstenolone and it will convert into 1-AD once it hits your liver, which will convert into Testosterone. Yes, two steps rather than the good old days with just one chemical step being needed. The product is only sold on ErgoPharm’s website (www.ergopharm.com).
I’m personally not a fan of using pro-hormones as they carry the same side effects as other oral steroids do, but they’re indeed quite popular.
